Handstand Secrets
"My all time record handstand is 2 mins and 41 seconds" - Rod
I have been practicing handstands on and off for about 12 years, I first learnt them when I did crossfit classes back in the day. I didn't have much instruction and was basically just trying to hit handstand holds any time anywhere.
This approach paid off to understand balance, but I would seek a teacher who can show you the form.
I thought I was crushing in the first 1-2 years of my handstand training, until I attended an Ido Portal workshop in Vancouver and learnt how to properly hold the straight line handstand
It was great to finally learn proper technique but it was devastating for my hold times. These adjustments took me from a banana back handstand of 50+ sec back to a 5-10 sec hold in a decent line.
Over the years I have corrected my form and have moved onto more advanced holds like the One arm handstand. That's another thing I love about this skill, you can spend your life trying to master it
I have spent many hours practicing and teaching the handstand over the years and it is always a crowd favorite in classes at TMC
On the Podcast this week, Jeni and I give some tips for Beginners and Intermediate handstanders and we tell our personal stories of the handstand journey.
PS. If you are in Newcastle you might want to jump into a class with us to learn the handstand - We are hitting Handstands in two classes this programming block - Session B (The lower body day) and Session C (Straight arm strength day)
Or you can register for our upcoming semi private handstand group starting in Feb or March depending on numbers - Only 3 spots left from 6.
Thanks for reading and for Supporting TMC
