Physical touch is missing
I remember moving and flowing in a pool of sweat
Lost in sea of human bodies
It was an Ido Portal movement workshop a few years back here in Newcastle.
50+ humans moving and connecting on a small concrete floor.
As group we were creating immense heat and energy for who knows how long, it was wild and a little gross when I think about it now. Hahaha
But in the moment it was the most incredible experience, fully present and in flow with so many other people.
Covid temporarily ruined the beautiful connection we had with other humans, we were told to stay away, mask up and social distance. This left myself and many others feeling disconnected, alone and distant from one another.
As a result of this, we adapted and changed the programs to suit, but now that things have settled we have been bringing it back into classes and into the space.
The Movement Collective has always had big components of physical touch and connection, we teach through our movement practice that physical touch is not just sexual or violent, they are two opposite ends of the spectrum. There is also so much space to explore in between them to learn and experience this body and others.
Have you herd of contact improv?
Hamzah is bringing Contact improv to our space starting this coming Thursday 5:30 pm for the next 6 weeks, drop ins are $25 and it's free for members.
We are so excited to be bringing back this physical connection to the space and keen for our members and Newcastle to come and learn with us.
Jeni and I had a great chat with Hamzah on our podcast this week - Please listen below to hear Hamzah's story and to find out more about the Contact and improv Movement Project.
