Plateau’s
There have been many times in my movement journey where I've felt stagnant or reached a plateau.
You may feel the same. Here are some reasons why this might happen;
Are you getting enough Volume or Intensity? Your body has adapted to the current stimulus and it's no longer enough for you to progress to the next level. To keep progressing, you need to increase total weekly volume and or level up the intensity that you are working at.
Some go too hard with both and need a bucket of water to slow the fire, others need a gentle nudge to increase the fire inside them. It's a balancing act and one that you will be forever tweaking. We like the idea of 70% intensity most days, this seems to yield great long term results and minimizes the risk of injury.
The issue might be Technical. You physically are not performing the movement correctly and need some tweaks to make it possible to allow the progress to happen. Correct form, tempo, breathing, tension, relaxation etc.Tools like a coach or filming yourself can be handy to see where you need to focus your energy.
Self-Belief or Fear - When we let self-doubt be a guiding principle in training, we put ourselves in a position where even if success is possible, our mindset and beliefs hold us back. I give an example of this and some tools to change your mindset in our latest podcast.
